The Trustee of the Degaldoruwa Raja Maha Viharaya in Kandy has been arrested by the Wattegama police a short while ago. A complaint had been lodged that the Buddhist monk had obstructed health officials who were carrying out dengue eradication programs in the vicinity, the Wattegama police said.

A group of health officials led by the Amunugama Public Health Investigator (PHI) had arrived at the temple on 09 October in order to check the premises for hotspots breeding dengue mosquitoes.

The officials had discovered several breeding grounds for mosquitoes in the temple grounds but were interrupted from carrying out further investigations due to the hindrance of the Trustee of the Raja Maha Viharaya, police stated.
