VIDEO: Sri Lanka’s Manju punches Gold

Sri Lankan boxer Manju Wanniarachchi won the gold medal in the 56 kg Bantam weight category at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi a short while ago.

 

 

The 30 year old pugilist creates history by becoming the second Sri Lankan to capture a boxing gold medal at the Games by beating rival Sean McGoldrick of Wales

 

 

The first ever medal for the island nation at the Commonwealth Games was won by Barney Henricus who won the featherweight title at the Empire Games in Sydneyin 1938. At the Games held in Aucklandin 1950, two Sri Lankan boxers K. Edwin and Albert Perera won silver medals while Alex Obeyesekere won a bronze.
