The Colombo District Court has issued an enjoining order today (04) preventing the alleged defamatory statement recently made by MP Dayasiri Jayasekara regarding SJB parliamentarian Velu Kumar, from being shared on social media platforms.

Former minister Jayasekara had made the controversial comments during a meeting held in Akuressa regarding the SJB parliamentarian Velu Kumar, who had recently pledged his support to President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the upcoming Presidential Election.

The Colombo District Court issued this order after considering a plaint filed by MP Velu Kumar demanding a compensation of Rs. 500 million for the damage caused to his reputation by the statement made by MP Dayasiri Jayasekara during a meeting held in the Akuressa area.

Accordingly, this order was issued preventing the publishing of the relevant statement on social media platforms including the Facebook page of Dayasiri Jayasekara and the SJB’s Facebook page, effective for a period of 14 days.
