21 university students arrested, 29 persons injured

UPDATE 3: Twenty one university students of both Peradeniya and Rajarata Universities have been arrested while their protest within the University Grants Commission premises was being dispersed, said Senior DIG K.P.P. Pathirana a short while ago.

 

 

Twenty nine injured persons have been admitted to the hospital of which 19 are police personnel, nine students and one hospital employees who had got caught up in the melee. Of these, three – two police personnel and the hospital employee have been warded while the others are receiving OPD treatment for their injuries, hospital sources said.
