The Bank of Ceylonhas released another loan of 250 Million rupees for Sri Lanka’s budget airline Mihin Lanka to purchase another aircraft, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake charged.  He questioned as to why the BOC would grant a loan to an airline that has already faced losses of over 33 Billion rupees.

Addressing a media gathering at Colombo today he said that at the start Mihin Lanka was provided with 500 million rupees by the Bank of Ceylon as initial investment and later on another 250 million rupees was lent by the bank.

The airline has also requested for a loan of Rs. 300 Million from the Lankaputhra Company, however Mihin Lanka has already suffered losses estimated to be over 33 Billion rupees, Mr. Attanayake said.

He pointed out that the BOC has decided to deduct the interest rate of the senior citizens funds by 0.5% due to the new loan being provided to the airline.
