Sri Lanka’s judiciary in for a windfall

A government proposal to increase the salaries of the Judiciary was presented to Parliament this afternoon by the Prime Minister. The Opposition agreed to the proposals.

 

 

According to the proposals presented by Premier D.M. Jayaratne these salary increments are to be effective from January 2006. This is in accordance with the 6/2006 State Administrative Circular of 25.04.2006 and as per Article 108(1) of the Constitution, Mr. Jayaratne said.

 

 

Accordingly, the salary of the Chief Justice will be Rs. 70,000 plus Rs. 1,5000, Supreme Court judges and Court of Appeal Chairman’s pay will be Rs. 65,000 while the Court of Appeal judges will be paid Rs. 63,500.
