Ada Derana today received a letter allegedly signed by the Dean of the Dental Faculty at Peradeniya University on August 4, 2008 conveying to Udul Premaratne that his registration as a Dental Student at the University had been cancelled.

This letter brings to light how a non-university student could lead the Inter-University Student Federation. According to the letter the Dean had notified H.W.U. Premaratne that he will cease to be a Dental Student with effect from July 29, 2008 due to two reasons.

Excerpt from letter on the reasons for cancellation of studentship;

1. You have failed to complete the 2nd BDS examination in 4 attempts. As per examination by-law No. 25 of Faculty of Dental Sciences, a student should complete the 2nd BDS examination within a maximum of 04 attempts.

1.1 You have sat for 2ndBDS examination in October 2006 and in February 2007. You have failed to secure passes in 2 subjects out of the total 5.

1.2 You neither sat for nor submitted valid reason or Medical Certificate for your absence for examinations held in December 2007 and May 2008. As such they have been considered as unsuccessful attempts.

2. You have not attended the academic programmes of the Faculty of Dental Sciences for over a period of 01 year without any notification, communication or submission of Medical Certificate.
