LG draft bill gets Supreme Court nod - Speaker

The Supreme Court has confirmed that the proposed draft of the Local Government Elections (Amendment) Bill was in line with the constitution of Sri Lanka, The Speaker told parliament a short while ago.

 

The Supreme Court opinion on the proposed draft of the Local Government Elections (Amendment) Bill will be informed to the Parliament at the coming Parliament session, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils Indika Bandaranayake said on November 7.

 

While the term period of the current Local Government will officially end on 31 March 2010, preparations are being made in order to hold a Local Government election before that date under the new election system, the Deputy Minister added.
