Two police officers including a Sub-Inspector (SI) and a Constable have been arrested in Galnewa area for attempting and aiding to solicit a bribe of Rs. 30,000, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) said.

The arrest followed a complaint filed by a resident of the Galnewa area.

The complainant had purchased a rice harvester (Tsunami) machine, which does not belong to the original owner from whom he purchased it.

Accordingly, the SI and the constable, both attached to the Galnewa Police Station, had demanded a bribe of Rs. 30,000 from the complainant to resolve the issue without taking legal action and to allow him to continue his scrap metal business.

Accordingly, the two police officers in question had been arrested by CIABOC investigation officers last morning (01) near the Galnewa Police Station for attempting to solicit and aiding in soliciting a bribe of Rs. 30,000.

After being produced before the Kekirawa Magistrate’s Court, the court has ordered the suspects to be remanded until March 7, 2025.
