VIDEO: Attacked by Army Intelligence officers, claims Handunneththi

I was attacked in Jaffna by Army Intelligence officers under the guidance of the government, says JVP MP Sunil Handunneththi. He said that such attacks can’t be carried out in a high security area such as Jaffna without manipulation by the government.

The parliamentarian mentioned that he was attacked at the residence of former MP Padmini Sidambaranadan on the night of November 14th, during a meeting that was being held to discuss the petition campaign demanding authorities to reveal the names of those arrested during the war.

He stated that a complaint regarding the assault was made to the police at around 8pm, however even before that media spokesmen to the government had repeatedly stated that the attack was carried out by Tamil people of Jaffna.  It is evident through this that the government was behind the attack, Handunneththi said.

Speaking at a media briefing at the JVP headquarters in Battaramulla today (16 November) the MP said that military control currently exists in Jaffna and the armed groups roaming the area are doing so with the blessings of the government.

Furthermore Sunil Handunneththi challenged the government to prove if possible that they were not involved in the assault by conducting a fair investigation on the incident.
