UPDATE: More students fall victim to insecticide spray, school closed

75 students of the Westhall Tamil Maha Vidyalaya in Gampola have been admitted to the Nawalapitiya hospital after they suffered from nausea, hospital sources told Ada Derana. Hospital sources said that they had fallen sick due to inhaling contaminated air.

 

 

(UPDATE) The Westhall Tamil Maha Vidyalaya in Gampola was indefinitely closed a short while ago, the Principal Mrs. Ambiha told Ada Derana. A health inspector has been dispatched to asses the situation.


20 students have been discharged after treatment and 25 more are still receiving medical care.

 

According to reports the insecticide that was sprayed on a nearby plot had contaminated the air around the school.

 

On November 24 Ada Derana reported a similar incident where 81 were admitted to the Nuwaraeliya hospital after they were rendered unconscious due to inhaling air contaminated by insecticide spray.
