Shooting incident reported in Katunayake, one injured

A shooting incident has been reported in the Heenatiyana area of Katunayake, police said.

According to police, a 29-year-old resident of Heenatiyana sustained injuries during the incident and was initially admitted to the Minuwangoda Hospital. 

He was later transferred to the Gampaha Hospital for further treatment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that two unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle, opened fire at the victim while he was at his residence, and subsequently fled the area, police said.

Police suspect that the shooting was carried out using a T56 assault rifle.

The motive behind the shooting has not yet been determined, and further investigations are currently underway.
