A Housing Secretariat’s office to be set up

To obtain information regarding houses within Sri Lanka, a Housing Secretariat’s office will be established on January 05, Minister Wimal Weerawansa said in reply to a question by UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake at Parliament today.

The Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities had presented to Parliament statistics of homes built in the past, which Sajith Premadasa claimed were incorrect.

The one million houses built by the United National Party government during 1978-1994 were not included in these statistics, the UNP Member of Parliament pointed out.

The statistical reports only include houses which have been restored and reconstructed and they were provided by the National Housing Development Authority, Wimal Weerawansa then explained.

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva had also verified the statement, saying that the information presented by Minister Wimal Weerawansa was accurate.
