23 injured in bus accident in Nuwara Eliya

Around 23 individuals have sustained injuries in an accident reported in Nuwara Eliya last night (23), Ada Derana reporter said.

A private bus heading from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy along the Nuwara Eliya – Kandy main road had veered off the road and overturned in the Toppass area at around 11:45 p.m. yesterday.

At the time of the accident, 54 individuals were on board the bus, including the driver, police stated.

Among them, three males including the driver and conductor, and 20 females were injured and admitted to the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital for treatment.

The group was returning from a leisure trip from Kurunegala to Badulla when they met with the accident.

Injured passengers are residents of Kiriwaula, Kurunegala.

Nuwara Eliya Police is conducting further investigations.
