Shooting incident reported in Panadura, one injured

An individual has sustained injuries in a shooting incident reported in Wekada, Panadura at around 10:00 a.m., police said.

Two individuals who arrived on a motorcycle opened fire at a shop in Wekada, Panadura.

The owner of the shop sustained minor injuries and was admitted to the Panadura Base Hospital, police noted.

Meanwhile, CCTV footage shows two unidentified individuals arriving on a motorcycle and firing several shots using a T-56 assault rifle.

The individual who was injured is said to be a close associate of Nilanga, an organized criminal who is currently abroad, according to the police.

In recent days, there have been shootings between Nilanga’s group and associates of underworld figure ‘Kudu Salindu’ in Malamulla and Madupitiya.

Panadura South Police is conducting further investigations.
