December 9, 2010   04:35 pm

In an interesting turn of events UK Defence Secretary Liam Fox and vociferous critic of UK, Sri Lankan Housing and Construction Minister Wimal Weerawansa is scheduled to be in the same hall on December 18. Fox is scheduled to deliver the Lakshman Kadirgamar Memorial Lecture on December 18.

When contacted Wimal Weerawansa’s secretary confirmed to Ada Derana that the minister was invited for the prestigious Lakshman Kadirgamar Memorial Lecture and he will be participating.

At a press conference held on December 2, Weerawansa claimed that Britain was a failed state that could not even provide adequate security to a visiting leader of a foreign nation. On December 3 Weerawansa led a protest march up to the British High Commission over the incident where due to alleged security concerns surrounding President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s visit to the UK the Oxford Union cancelled the President’s scheduled speech.
