Doctors of the Colombo general hospital Outpatient Department have decided to refrain from treating patients and all other medical services. The doctors have resorted to this in protest to the assault of an OPD doctor by a certain group, Government Medical Officers’ Association said.

The doctor in question had allegedly been attacked by an unknown group following an accident that had occurred while he had been traveling in a vehicle with his family.

As a result the Medicos will take part in this trade union action until 12.00 noon today (December 11), GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr. Upul Gunasekara stated.

If legal action is not taken against the people involved in the assault each and every doctor will abstain from other medical treatments except the essential services, he emphasized.
