Despite differences in opinion amongst members of the UNP, there is no division within the party claims UNP Media Spokesman MP Gayantha Karunathilaka.

This comment came in reply to questions raised about party unity after Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and Sajith Premadasa held seperate press conferences following the Party’s special convention.

Addressing a Media gathering at Cambridge Terrace, Mr. Karunathilaka stated that it was after such a convention that the UNP were able to gain such political power in 1975. He added that a group of SLFP members from Kasbewa had already got UNP membership today from the hand of the Opposition Leader.

He also announced that the top positions at the party will be filled following an election within the next 120 days.
