The Colombo Crime Division of the police have begun an investigation into the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda, the Attorney General had informed the Court of Appeals today.

The government attorney representing the Attorney General had made this statement when the Appeal Court today (December 14) brought forth the petition filed by the wife of Ekneligoda.

The petition requested the Court of Appeal to order the inquiry into Ekneligoda’s disappearance to be expedited and that he be produced before court.

The case had been called today in order to present objections in regard to the petition. However the government attorney had requested that an additional date be given in order to present objections.

The request was then reproachfully criticized by the Appeal Court judges, who stated that the trial was of great importance and advised the government attorney to take the fact into consideration and to present objections to the petition on the next date.

Court then ordered that the hearing be resumed on January 18 and also ordered the government attorney to present the objections on the said date.
