VIDEO: Government should seek answers on London protest - Jayawardena

Amidst accusations that he was behind the protests against President Mahinda Rajapakse in London, UNP MP Jayalath Jayawardena completely condemned the incident and implored the government to seek action against those involved.

In an exclusive interview with Ada Derana, Mr. Jayawardena said that those involved in the protest were mostly Tamils who were British citizens and were subject to British laws by which they should not have never been able to stage such a protest.

“I completely condemn this incident because regardless of my sentiments towards President Rajapakse, he is still the head of our country,” he said.

Mr. Jayawardena stated that the government needed to question the British government on this incident and find out how such an incident was allowed to take place.

“How were they able to bring the LTTE flag into a public place such as the Heathrow Airport? According to my knowledge the LTTE flag has not been banned in the UK,” he said.

Furthermore, he claimed that several efforts were made to warn the President from visiting UK especially during the week long Maaveera celebrations which begin on November 26, Velupillai Prabhakaran’s birthday.

Several government MPs have accused MP Jayawardena of instigating these protests to which he said that these allegations were baseless while stating that he is willing to cooperate with any investigation into the matter.
