Bees to help dispel wild elephants

As a special programme intended on chasing away wild elephants from rampaging through rural villages the Ministry of Agrarian Services and Wildlife has decided to place artificial bee hives in reserve borders.


Ditches will be dug and Palm trees will be planted in the borders of the reserves to obstruct the elephants from crossing, Minister S.M. Chandrasena stated.


A special programme will be carried out using the expertise of media personnel in the areas where conflicts between humans and wild elephants are reported, the Agrarian Services and Wildlife Minister further expressed.
