No reductions in the power and authority of Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe have occurred through the new party constitution, says Chairman of the UNP Reforms Committee Joseph Michael Perera.

Therefore the media should not make a big issue out of it, the Parliamentarian said in a press conference at Colombo today (December 21).

In reply to a question poised by a media person Joseph Michael stated that immediate steps will be taken to in order to appoint party members for senior posts in the United National Party through an election according to the new constitution.

Even though the panel of experts appointed by the Secretary General of the United Nations was to visit the country and meet with the Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission, it has now been revealed through media that such a visit will not take place, Lakshman Kiriella who also graced the briefing expressed.

Although initially the government had stated that they would provide full support to the Expert Panel in order carry out its duties, however due to government being reluctant to provide the party with visas they plant get down the members of the LLRC to a foreign venue, he further pointed out.
