Two Lankans arrested with foreign currency worth Rs.3 million

Two Sri Lankans have been arrested by custom officials at the Katunayake International Airport while they had been attempting to smuggle foreign currency in a flight from Sri Lanka to Bangkok yesterday (December 25) evening.


Following the arrest stacks of foreign currency including 26 300 US Dollars, 5 920 Thai Baht and also 1175 Chinese Yuan were recovered from the suspects.


The total currency notes amounts to over 3 million Lankan Rupees, Airport Customs Director Parakrama Basnayake told Ada Derana. The arrested suspects are said to be residents of Colombo and Kandy.
