All six sluice gates of the Nachchaduwa reservoir in Anuradhapura have been released. Due to the heavy rainfall in the area the water level of the reservoir had risen extremely high. Therefore the sluice gates were opened in order to release the excess water.
However it has also been reported that due to the opening of the gates the water in the Nachchaduwa reservoir has joined the Malwathu Oya causing the surrounding area to get flooded.
The bridge of the passage way from Anuradhapura to Puja is also said to be under water causing a hindrance to the vehicles traveling in the route.
