A 21-year-old youth has been shot dead while another person has been injured in a shooting incident that occurred in the Malani Bulathsinhala Road at Boralesgamuwa, the Police Spokesman said.

The shooting, which was reportedly carried out by an unidentified gunman who arrived in a three-wheeler, occurred at around 12.30 a.m. today (24), according to police.

The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Gihan Dulan Perera, a resident of the Mount Lavinia area.

Police investigations have revealed that a gunman who arrived in a three-wheeler opened fire at the victim while he was walking on the road with eight others, after attending a musical show in the Boralesgamuwa area.

Police suspect that the shooting occurred following an argument that escalated during the musical show.

The investigations conducted so far have revealed that both parties are members of certain organized criminal groups, Police Media Spokesperson, ASP F.U. Wootler said.
