President appoints 28-member Task Force to develop Tourism industry

A Presidential Task Force has been appointed for the implementation of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Programme.

The 28-member Task Force has been appointed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake by virtue of the powers vested in him by Article 33 of the Constitution.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath has been named the Chairman of the Task Force while the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ruwan Chaminda Ranasingha has been named the Vice Chairman of the Presidential Task Force.

The Task Force has been mandated with policy analysis, strategic planning and regulations and the identification of challenges and solutions.

They are also tasked with monitoring and evaluation of all institutions in the tourism sector, including the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.

The Presidential Task Force has been appointed for a period of two years and they are required to submit a comprehensive report before the end of their tenure.
