Increasing minimum age for foreign employment next year’s priority

The Ministry of Foreign Employment and Welfare has decided that the minimum age for Sri Lankans going abroad for jobs will be increased to 21 years. Minister Dilan Perera says that a proposal we be presented to Parliament in this regard and it will be next year’s first cabinet paper.
He also expressed that if a person leaving for foreign employment were to meet his or her employee at the embassy of the respective country then the ambassador would be able to be more cogitative in regard to that certain Sri Lankan worker.
Speaking during a function held at the Badulla postal complex the Minister of Foreign Employment and Welfare further stated that he hopes to provide more opportunities for skilled matrons instead of house maids by sending skilled laborers for foreign employment as much as possible.
