The Binara Full Moon Poya Day falls today (07).
The Binara Full Moon Poya Day is considered a significant one in the history of Buddhism, marking several important events, including the establishment of the Bhikkhuni order.
According to Buddhist history, it was on this Poya day that 500 women, including Maha Prajapati Gotami, were ordained and entered the monastic order, thereby granting ordination to women.
Meanwhile, religious programs have been organized across temples and monasteries throughout the island today, focusing on both material (Amisa) and spiritual (Patipatti) offerings in observance of Binara Full Moon Poya Day.
