Over 1,800 killed in road accidents this year

A total of 1,870 individuals have lost their lives in 1,757 fatal road accidents that occurred between January 1 and September 4 of this year, according to police.

The alarming statistic was revealed by Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Traffic, Indika Hapugoda.

DIG Indika Hapugoda noted around seven to eight people are being killed daily due to fatal road accidents.

Therefore, he stated that all road users—including drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and passengers—must strictly follow traffic laws, adhere to road signs, and act with self-discipline to minimize the number of accidents.
