One dead, two hospitalised due to drowning near Blue Beach Island

Three individuals have been swept away due strong currents while bathing in seas near the Blue Beach Island in Dikwella, police stated.

Area residents had then acted swiftly to rescue the trio but one person was pronounced dead, according to police.

The body of the deceased has been taken to the Batheegama Hospital, while the other two individuals have been admitted to the Matara General Hospital and are currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Police stated that the victims are residents of Yatiyana.

Further investigations are underway.
