UPDATE: Three persons are still missing and are believed to be under the rubble following an earth slip at Devini Rajasinghe Mawatha near Getambe, Kandy Police sources said this evening.

Fourteen persons are believed to have been buried when a huge rock toppled on some houses and the earth covered the dwellings. The area is said to be an abandoned quarry, according to sources.

Of the 14 who were buried under the rubble, seven were rescued and are being treated at the Kandy hospital while four bodies were recovered. Three are yet to be found, according to Police.

Meanwhile, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) some 750,000 persons island-wide have been displaced to floods and other natural disasters following the unusually heavy downpour.
