Protest in Jaffna against Indian fishermen

January 11, 2011   12:01 pm

The fishing community in Eluvativu, Jaffna has begun a protest today (January 11) morning against Indian fishermen encroaching Jaffna seas.

The Eluvativu fishermen say that they have had to face many difficulties due to Indian fishermen unlawfully crossing the maritime borders and engaging in fishing activities.

Ada Derana correspondent in the area reported that even the public in the area have closed down shops in the town and joined in the protest.

Eluvativu’s fishing community demands that the authorities take appropriate action in order to prevent the Indian fishermen from entering Lankan waters.
