Rumesh Tharanga named Best Male Athlete at South Asian Athletics Championships

Sri Lanka’s javelin champion Rumesh Tharanga has been adjudged the Best Male Athlete at the fourth South Asian Athletics Championships held in Ranchi, India.

The championship concluded last evening with India topping the medals tally with 20 gold medals. Sri Lanka finished second with an impressive tally of 16 gold medals, 14 silver and 10 bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Rumesh Tharanga claimed the gold medal in the Men’s javelin throw event at the South Asian Athletics Championships in Ranchi yesterday.

Tharanga won the event with a throw of 84.29m.

Sri Lanka’s Sumedha Ranasinghe claimed the silver medal in the event with a throw of 81.62m.

India had to settle for the bronze in the event.

Uttam Patil claimed the medal with a throw of 76.30m.
