Sri Lanka team which secured second place at South Asian Athletics Championship returns to the island

The Sri Lankan athletics team which secured second place at the fourth South Asian Senior Athletics Championship held in India, arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning (28).

Sri Lanka won 16 gold medals, 14 silver medals, and 10 bronze medals for a total of 40 medals at the championship.

The championship was held in Ranchi, India, from October 24 to 26, with the participation of athletes from countries across the South Asian region.

The medal-winning Sri Lankan athletes arrived at the BIA at 2:10 a.m., aboard a private airline flight from Chennai, India.

Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage, officials representing sports divisions of the tri-forces, school teachers and the parents of the athletes were present at the BIA to welcome the Sri Lankan athletes.
