The UNP, the JVP and Sarath Fonseka should unite with the government in helping the victims of the flood during this time or else end their own lives as a service to the country, Public Affairs and Public Relations Minister Mervyn Silva said.

Speaking at the D.A. Rajapaksha Vidyalaya in Kiribathgoda he said that the opposition had to start helping the people of the country during this difficult time instead of spreading superstitious beliefs amongst the people regarding the floods. He said it is better for them to drown themselves if they do not unite to help the people of the country.

He added that people needed to evolve along with the times and to learn how to face nature as it was in a state of change.
