iPhone 18 Pro tipped to launch in burgundy, coffee, and fresh new colors

iPhone 18 Pro tipped to launch in burgundy, coffee, and fresh new colors

Apple seems to have developed a bit of a flair for drama lately, and no, we’re not talking about its keynote events.

After dazzling fans with the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro series, the company might be stirring up another visual feast for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

According to a well-known Chinese tipster, new shades are on the horizon, and one of them sounds positively caffeinated. A tipster who goes by the name Instant Digital on Weibo claims that Apple is preparing to unveil three fresh hues for its iPhone 18 Pro series: Coffee, purple, and burgundy. It seems the company that brought us “Space Black” and “Starlight” might finally be entering brewing territory.

Apple has never before released a coffee-coloured iPhone, so this could mark a bold aesthetic shift for the brand. If this particular rumour proves true, the shade might echo the warmth of the gold iPhone XS or even the desert titanium finish from the iPhone 16 Pro series. Either way, a Coffee iPhone sounds like something you’ll want to hold in your hand while sipping an actual latte.

Purple, on the other hand, isn’t a total stranger to the iPhone family. Apple has previously flirted with lavender and violet shades, seen on the iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 14, and even the iPhone XR. But Burgundy? That’s new territory. If the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro was all about being loud and luxurious, then Burgundy might be Apple’s way of saying, “Let’s keep things elegant this time.”

iPhone 18 Pro may ditch classic Black

Perhaps the biggest surprise isn’t what’s coming, but what’s not. The leak also suggests that, just like the iPhone 17 Pro lineup, the iPhone 18 Pro won’t be getting a traditional Black variant. That’s right — Apple’s most iconic and timeless colour seems to have been benched once again.

Currently, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are available in Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue, and Silver — a trio that turned heads when Apple dropped the classic black tone from the mix. It’s the first time in the company’s history that its flagship Pro models skipped a black option entirely, signalling that Apple might be leaning fully into bolder, more expressive finishes.

iPhone 18 Pro: What to expect

Underneath all that colourful talk, there’s some serious hardware muscle expected too. The iPhone 18 Pro models will reportedly run on Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip, a silicon upgrade that promises to deliver faster performance and better energy efficiency. The devices might also debut with a C2 modem for improved connectivity and a main camera with variable aperture, a feature that could give mobile photography enthusiasts a lot to be excited about.

The source of these details, Mobile Phone Chip Expert (another reliable Weibo tipster), has a decent record when it comes to Apple’s silicon roadmap, so these predictions may not be just wild guesses.

What about the foldable iPhone?

And because no Apple rumour mill is ever complete without a mention of the mythical foldable iPhone, yes, that’s in the mix too. The A20 chip (the standard version, not the Pro) is expected to power the regular iPhone 18, while the A20 Pro might also make its way into Apple’s much-speculated foldable device.

There’s still no word on which chip could end up inside the supposed iPhone 18e or the next-gen iPhone Air, but if Apple does release a foldable phone next year, it would mark one of the company’s most significant hardware shifts since the first iPhone launched in 2007.
