Five killed in separate road accidents over the past 24 hours

Five individuals have died in separate fatal accidents across different parts of the island yesterday (05), police stated.

 

A motorcyclist travelling towards Pansal Godella along the Pansal Godella - Thalpotha road in Hingurakgoda lost control of the vehicle and met with an accident last morning (05). 

 

The 28-year-old motorcyclist overturned at the 7th post, causing severe injuries to the rider. 

 

Despite being rushed to the Galamuna Hospital for treatment, the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries.

 

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist travelling towards Anuradhapura, near the Kumbukgahamulla junction on the Anuradhapura-Padeniya road in Wariyapola, collided with a bus. The accident occurred when the motorcyclist, attempting to turn right, was struck by a bus coming from behind. 

 

Following the accident, the 30-year-old motorcyclist and his pillion rider were admitted to the Wariyapola Hospital with injuries. The pillion rider succumbed to his injuries, while the motorcyclist was transferred to the Kurunegala Hospital for further treatment. 

 

The body of the deceased has been placed at the morgue of the Kurunegala Hospital and the bus driver involved in the incident has been arrested. 

 

Wariyapola Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.

 

A 25-year-old motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle along the Kelaniya-Biyagama road in Raggahawatta last morning and crashed into a nearby signal post. 

 

The rider sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Biyagama Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

 

Meanwhile, last night, a van travelling towards Medawachchiya on the Medawachchiya-Horawpathana road rammed into a 34-year-old pedestrian who was standing by the side of the road. 

 

The pedestrian, severely injured in the accident, was taken to the Medawachchiya Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

 

In another incident, a motorcycle travelling towards Unapandura Junction on the Homagama Walawwa-Unapandura Junction bypass road veered off the road and struck an electric pole. 

 

The 17-year-old rider and his passenger were both seriously injured and admitted to the Homagama Hospital. 

 

However, the rider succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The body of the deceased has been placed at the morgue of the Homagama Hospital. 

 

The Homagama Police are conducting further investigations into this incident.
