Czech national drowns in seas off Dikwella

A Czech national was reportedly swept away by strong waves while bathing in seas off Dikwella yesterday (10), police stated.

According to police, lifeguards rescued the individual from deep waters and admitted him to the Batheegama Hospital. He was later transferred to the Matara Hospital for further treatment, where he was pronounced dead.

The deceased has been identified as a 63-year-old Czech tourist.

Investigations have revealed that the victim had gone for a sea bath with his wife and two others.

It was further disclosed that two of his companions had also been caught in strong currents, but lifeguards managed to rescue both of them.

The Dikwella Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
