35th IMBL meeting concludes on successful note

The 35th International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) meeting between the Sri Lanka and Indian Navies and Coast Guards was held on board INS Sukanya, at the Indo-Sri Lanka Maritime Boundary Line, north of Kankesanthurai.
The purpose of the annual IMBL meeting is to strengthen relationships and explore collaborative strategies that the Navies and Coast Guards of the two neighboring countries can implement to address shared maritime challenges in the Indian Ocean Region, the Sri Lanka Navy said in a statement.
The Sri Lankan delegation was led by Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage while the Indian delegation was headed by Flag Officer Commanding Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area, Rear Admiral Satish Shenai.
During this year’s meeting, representatives from both parties discussed matters concerning the security of their respective maritime borders and reviewed the progress made in previous meetings. Further, the parties reinforced their resolve to combinedly combat the maritime challenges emanating across the IMBL, the Navy noted.
The Deputy Area Commander North Central Naval Area, Commodore Aruna Weerasinghe, a group of senior officers from the Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard and Defence Adviser to the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, Captain Anand Mukundan were also present on this occasion.
