Providing clean drinking water to public is govt’s duty

It’s a government’s responsibility to provide the public with clean drinking water, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said today. Large amounts of money is spent by the government for that purpose therefore steps must be taken to prevent the wastage of water, he pointed out.
The President made these statements during a function held at Temple Trees to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Labugama Reservoir and Water Treatment Plant.
While the development process of the Labugama Water Treatment Plant is scheduled to begin tomorrow, President’s Media stated that the project is being funded by the Hungarian government.
Sri Lanka in the near future would join the ranks of the developed countries, the Hungarian Secretary of State had stated at the function today (January 18).
