Child abuse in children’s homes on the rise

The National Child Protection Authority says that the affairs of Children’s Homes islandwide will be placed under special observation as the number of complaints being received regarding child abuse in children’s homes have drastically increased.


Presently 6 persons accountable for children’s homes have been placed under remand custody as ordered by court, NCPA Chairperson Anoma Dissanayake stated and added that this is truly an unfortunate situation.


She requested that all wardens and matrons of children’s homes to consider the maximum benefit of the children and to act accordingly.


The National Child Protection Authority is presently carrying out raids much more efficiently than before, Attorney-at-law Mrs. Anoma Dissanayake further expressed.
