The government remains committed to ensuring relief reaches to all affected communities without any financial delays, the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has emphasized.

Instructions have also been given to all state officials for necessary information to be submitted promptly to facilitate compensation for qualifying groups, and to ensure the collection of accurate data, according to the President’s Media Division.

These remarks were made during a discussion held in order to accelerate relief disbursements for those affected by the recent disaster.

The President chaired the meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat with Ministry Secretaries and officials from the Ministry of Finance.

During the meeting, in order to prevent delays in data collection, a specialised team was appointed to operate beyond standard procedures, ensuring the process is carried out swiftly and effectively, the PMD noted.

Special attention was also directed toward accurately gathering data on the total number of displaced persons, the number of schoolchildren affected, the number of damaged homes, losses in paddy and vegetable crops, and damage to livestock and other agricultural resources.

The discussion outlined proper procedures and timelines for disbursing relief to these affected sectors, the PMD added further.
