Prison officers fire warning shots to prevent inmates from escaping Galle Prison

Prison officers fired warning shots into the air after two remand inmates at the Galle Prison attempted to escape.

The Department of Prisons stated that the two inmates, startled by the gunfire, returned back into the prison premises.

However, both inmates sustained minor injuries and are due to be produced before the prison medical officer for treatment.
