India’s External Affairs Minister Jaishankar concludes visit to Sri Lanka

The Minister of External Affairs of India, S. Jaishankar has concluded his official visit to Sri Lanka.

Minister Jaishankar, who arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday (22), held discussions with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya pertaining to on-going restoration activities after Cyclone Ditwah devastated several parts of the country.

India has played a major role in rescue and relief activities in several parts of the country in the past two weeks.

Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar also announced India will provide a USD 450 million package to assist in the reconstruction of areas affected by Cyclone Ditvah in Sri Lanka.

Minister Jaishankar stated that the package comprises a USD 350 million concessionary line of credit and USD 100 million in grants, aimed at supporting the rebuilding of cyclone-affected regions in Sri Lanka.

Dr. S. Jaishankar, speaking as Special Envoy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighted India’s continued support for Sri Lanka during the joint virtual inauguration of a Bailey bridge in Kilinochchi District, Northern Province.

Meanwhile, he also met Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa and discussed India’s proposed reconstruction package in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah.

During the visit, Minister of External Affairs of India S. Jaishankar held discussions with members of the Indian Business community based in Sri Lanka.

Furthermore, representatives of political parties mainly based in the Northern and Eastern provinces and leaders of the Indian Origin Tamil community held talks pertaining post Ditwah reconstruction and rehabilitation with Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar.
