Out of the nominations received yesterday (January 27) for the upcoming Local Government election 450 were rejected, says Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake.


He stated that 2047 nominations had been presented for the 301 announced Local Government institutions. 1597 out of those have been accepted by the District Secretaries of those relevant districts.


A majority of nominations were rejected from the Ampara District. From the 164 nominations presented for the Ampara District 48 have been rejected out of which 43 nominations were of independent groups.
