India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today said that it would take up the cause of Sri Lankan Tamils and raise the issue in the Indian Parliament, as also at the International Human Rights forum in order to “ensure justice to the people suffering in the island nation”.

“We will ensure fundamental rights of Sri Lankan Tamils within the sovereignty of Sri Lanka,” BJP president Nitin Gadkari said, touching upon the emotional issue now being highlighted by the killing of Indian fishermen on high seas, allegedly by the Sri Lankan naval personnel.

The BJP chief made these statements addressing a mammoth public meeting of BJP workers and activists to mark the culmination of its 41 day state wide Tamarai yatra on Saturday.
