Update - The shooting had occurred last night (01) between 9.30 p.m. and 10.00 p.m. along Menikagara Road, Koratota, Nawagamuwa, in the Kaduwela area, according to police.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the Nawagamuwa Police have revealed that the attack targeted three individuals who were inside a rented house at the time.

The suspects, who arrived on a motorcycle and a three-wheeler, allegedly opened fire and fled the scene immediately after the incident.

One victim, who was shot near the bathroom of the house, died at the scene. The deceased has been identified as a 20-year-old resident of Borella.

Two other victims who sustained injuries, residents of Wadiyagoda in Ambalantota and Dematagoda were initially admitted to the Oruwala Regional Hospital in Athurugiriya and were later transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital for further treatment, police said.

Police stated that one of the injured individuals sustained four gunshot wounds, while the other suffered one gunshot wound.

The Police also stated that 15 9mm bullet casings were found at the scene of the incident.

Police further revealed that the three individuals had moved into the rented house approximately one and a half months ago and were attending a New Year’s party at the time of the shooting incident.

The motive for the shooting has not yet been determined, however, police suspect it may be linked to a dispute between two underworld groups.

The Nawagamuwa Police and the Nugegoda Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau are conducting further investigations into the incident.

One person has been killed and two others had reportedly sustained injuries in a shooting incident reported in the Koratota area in Kaduwela, police said.
