Around 6 kg of Crystal Methamphetamine (“Ice”) and 5 kg of heroin were recovered, and two suspects along with their vehicle were taken into custody by the Expressway Highway Police at the Godagama–Palatuwa interchange on the Southern Expressway, police said.

Earlier today, officers stationed at the Palatuwa exit of the Godagama Interchange signaled a vehicle traveling from Colombo to stop for inspection. Upon being signaled, the driver and an additional occupant attempted to flee the scene; however, both individuals were successfully apprehended by the officers.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the seizure of around 6 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 5 kilograms of heroin.

The suspects, aged 20 and 21, have been identified as residents of Matara, said police.

The suspects and the confiscated drugs are scheduled to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.
