Possible delay but increased flood relief

Steps are being taken to increase the quantity of relief provided to people who have been severely affected by the floods, says Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera. We have decided to increase the amount of dry rations and money given to these families, he stated.

He added that the approval of the treasury has already been requested for this purpose and that currently an additional fund of Rs. 500 million has been provided by the treasury to aid the flood victims.

“Certain delays may occur in providing provisions and reliefs as some regions are only accessible by boats or through air. However with the cooperation of the Air Force and the Navy these setbacks will be lessened” the Minister pointed out.
