A 35 year old Sri Lankan maid who returned to the country last week after being employed in Saudi Arabia for just over a month was operated on after doctors found that metal wires had been inserted into her limbs.

The Sri Lankan housemaid went to Saudi on employement on December 21 last year but returned to her hometown in Polpitigama, Kurunegala on February 4 after Saudi Authorities sent her back for medical reasons.

She was admitted to the Polpitgama hospital before being taken to the Kurunegala teaching hospital where x-rays revealed that seven small metal wires had been inserted into her body. Dr. Mrs. M.D.S. Rajathanthri said that two wires had been inserted into her right hand, four into her left leg and one into her right leg while some of the wires were as fine as strands of hair.

The Foreign Employment Bureau (FEB) stated that it will investigate the matter further once the medical reports are handed over.
